Mission to South Sudan – January 2026

A five-member team of "Heart Doctors" departed from Athens on Sunday, January 11, 2026 for South Sudan. With a stopover in Cairo, the mission arrived the next day in the capital of South Sudan, Juba.

After a days stay in the capital of South Sudan due to difficulty receiving the medicines from customs, "Heart Doctors" team, on 14.1.2026, departed by plane for Yambio, where they were warmly welcomed by the Bishop of Yambio and the Minister of Health of the region. They then went to the city hospital where they provided medical services for the needy residents as well as for the diocese staff.

The next day, 15.1.2026, "Heart Doctors" team with security escort and the bishops staff set off by road for the Nzara area where a clinic was held at St. Theresa Hospital and they spent the night there.

On 16.1.2026, "Heart Doctors" team set off by road for the Ezo region, a journey of approximately 3 hours on difficult dirt roads, to go to the village of Banduguyo where they provided medical camp at the local health center and they stayed overnight.

The next day, 17.1.2026, they again provided medical services at Ezo Hospital and in the afternoon they departed for the village of Rii-Yubu. A five-hour journey on a rough road eroded by rainwater. They encountered many obstacles such as tree trunks, difficult passages and damage in the cars. The team spent the night in the village of Rii-Yubu and the next day held a clinic at the medical center.

On 19.1.2026, they provided medical care at the Ngboko Village Medical Center.

The next day, "Heart Doctors" team set off early in the morning for Tombura village and after 2 hours of rough dirt road arrived and for the next two days provided medical care at Tombura Hospital.

On 21.1.2026 they departed from Tombura by plane for Juba and on 23.1.2026 they departed for Athens with an overnight stay in Cairo.

Filariasis, malaria, anemia, dysmenorrhea, gastritis, gastroenteritis, upper respiratory infections, arthralgias, conjunctivitis, parasites, helminthiasis, epilepsy, urinary tract infections, thyroid, cachexia, Parkinsons, high blood pressure, diabetes.
