Mission to NIGERIA - April 2026
A six-member team of "Heart Doctors" departed from Athens on Saturday,18.4.2026, for Nigeria. With a stopover and overnight stay in Cairo, the mission arrived the next day at noon in the capital of Nigeria, Abuja, and immediately departed by road with a police escort for Minna, where they spent the night as guests of the governor of Niger State, Mr. Bago.
Over the next four days, the team traveled by road through difficult roads to provide medical assistance to the following remote villages in the city of Minna:
20/4 Tungan Waya, Bosso Local Government Area, Niger State
21/4 Emilugi, Lavun Local Government Area, Niger State
22/4 EmiBana, Lavun Local Government Area, Niger State
23/4 Gyedna, Tafa Local Government Area, Niger State
On 22/4 at noon, the governor of Niger State, Mr. Bago, visited the team at their accommodation, where they discussed what the team encountered during the free medical care in the villages they had visited.
On 23/4 in the village of Gyedna, the team inaugurated a rural clinic which consists of a delivery room, three nursing rooms and an examination room.
The inauguration ceremony were attended by many officials and crowds of people from the surrounding areas. Following speeches and traditional celebrations with songs and dances.
On 24/4, the team, escorted by police officers, they departed for Abuja, flying to Cairo where they spent the night. On 25/4, they returned to Athens.
Main diseases:
Malaria, anemia, upper respiratory infections, parasites, hypertension, skin diseases, conjunctivitis, urinary tract infections, arthralgias, back pain.
