
Mission to NIGERIA – January 2025
A four-member team of “Heart Doctors” departed from Athens on Thursday 23.1.2025, for Nigeria. With a stopover and overnight stay in Cairo, the mission arrived the next afternoon in the capital of Nigeria, Abuja. There, representatives of the governor of Niger State were waiting for them and, escorted by police, they arrived by road after a 3-hour difficult journey to Minna, the capital of the prefecture, where they spent the night as guests of Governor Bago at the VIP Governor’s Guest House.
The next day, 25.1.2025, the “Heart Doctors” team set off by road, traveling over rough roads, to visit the village of Gusun (Gurara Local Government Area) for the inauguration of the rural clinic. In the last mission, the team requested that the old dilapidated clinic be demolished and a new one be built to meet the needs of the residents of the village and the surrounding area. The clinic consists of a delivery room, a nursing room and a doctor’s office. The inauguration was attended by a large crowd of people and the Emir of the region. At the same time, free medical care was provided. The team spent the night there.
The villages visited by the team during the next three days are listed below.
Gydna village - Tafa Local Government Area
IDP Camp, Kuta - Shiroro Local Government Area
Filikin village - Bosso Local Government Area
Pangu village - Bosso Local Government Area
In the local community of Kuta, the internally displaced immigrants of the camp were examined, milk was given to the infants and 10 bags of rice of 100 kg for the nutrition of the families.
On 28.1.2025, the team of “Heart Doctors” offered free medical care in the village near the town of Pinda and later traveled by road late at night to the “Golden Sugar Estate” FMN Koumantaros Group Companies, Sunti, Mokwa, Niger State, invited by the General Manager of Mr. Anlo du Pisani and his wife Tamara.
For the next two days, the team offered free medical services at the premises of the Sunti clinic of the “Sunti Golden Sugar Estate” unit. In addition to the employees of the companys complex, crowds of patients who were transported by the companys trucks from the villages of the wider area to Sunti were examined and received free medication.
Main diseases:
Malaria, parasites, arthralgias, hypertension, skin diseases, gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections, upper respiratory infections, conjunctivitis, anemia and a few children with malnutrition.
On 30.1.2025, the Heart Doctors team returned with a security escort to Minna where they spent the night at the Governors building and the next day they departed again with a police escort to Abuja airport, departing by plane for Cairo where they spent the night. The next day they returned to Athens.
